A bit of Doodling...

After watching Christy's post a few weeks ago, I couldn't get it out of my head!  I HAD to give it a try!  Its not at all what I expected...not as soft as hers, but I still like it :)

All in all, it took about 3-4 hours...I began with a coat of gesso, then once it dried I used permanent pen to doodle my design.  Once that set, I then used my watercolor crayons to get the base color, with shadowing with my Pitt Pens.  I used a fixative to make sure the watercolor didn't react with my Modpodge....added a few stamps and textured!  It was so relaxing!  Dave noticed I was "in the zone" and let me be for the ENTIRE process!  (He is such a  keeper!)

Mixed Media Monster Flower!

Here is the Mixed Media Flower I created on the monster canvas I mentioned a few posts ago!  Its a whopping 22x30!

Check out the experiment with the modeling paste...I grabbed the top of my Basic Grey Precision File Set to add the circles! Its quite handy with that little handle :)

Thanks for taking a peek!

Loving Mixed Media....

Hi Folks!
Just thought I'd pop in and post a few things I've been working on this Christmas time!  Thankfully my family doesn't read my blog much hehe

These are all 8x8, and I have to say I think this is my favorite size to work with!  I made a big monster of a flower a few weeks ago (22x30) and I think it was just too much space for me right now.  I have more super large canvas', but I'll save those until I find my "style" with the smaller ones.  At the moment, I'm sticking within the "She Art" comfort zone (Thanks Christy Tomlinson!!!)

Hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas!

Cheers,
Stephanie

A differnt Style?

Just a few layouts I was able to complete during the last LCOM crop in Moncton...another fabulous weekend with Kristine and the girls :)  So much fun....and check it out, 8 layouts completed!!!

Kristine says my style is changing: I'm not as messy/grungy....I didn't really notice until she mentioned it!  I think it may be that I'm getting my messy fix with the mixed media art I've been dabbling in and also, I tend not to spring my sprays and paint when I go to crops!  tee hee funny how little things like that can change things up!

Another year, another Birthday..

As I mentioned in my previous post, I had the opportunity to scrapbook with my bestie Kristine a week ago (yay!)  I was able to finish 6 layouts...I'm not sure what it is, but we she and I get together, its like a scrappy marathon!  We both get so much done then when we scrap alone LOL

My birthday snuck up on my while I was away in Saint John...and although I was bummed not to celebrate it with Dave and the boys, Kristine more than made up for it!  She came over with birthday cupcakes and we scrapped the night away!  It was wonderful!  I managed to get this layout done that evening.  My new tradition: to scrap the past year highlights...because I don't know about you, but I'm starting to forget things as that number gets higher  LOL

When I got home from my trip, Dave and the boys had this waiting for me!  Isn't it adorable!  It was so "Whimsy-like" just loved it!!!  My boys rock!

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Reason why I Scrapbook...

This past week my work brought me to Saint John, NB and I was able to scrapbook all three evenings with the lovely Kristine!  The hotel was kind enough to let me have one  of their large conference room tables all week, so we had lots of space for our scrappy supplies.  I finished 6 layouts during this time, but felt this one needed its own posting.

Although, I've always thought of this blog as a more of a place to share my love of scrapbooking and other artsy crafty stuff, a bit of my personal life gets thrown in for good measure.  Its really difficult for it not too considering how much of ourselves we tend to put on a scrappy page :)

If you've ever visited before, it would be obvious that I am a cat lover.....7 cats in particular have my heart at this time in my life....and this layout it about the cat that started it all over 15 years ago.

Seymour (aka: Boogie the Booganator, Boogs and Boogie Woogie) has been showing signs of his age lately.  The most recent being a serious kidney infection that put him on a 21 day antibiotic regime...and the vet asking me to read between the lines and prepare myself.  He was gentle about it, but I know how serious it is especially in combo with his hyperthyroidism.   I'm trying to stay positive, but at the same time trying to prepare myself for the inevitable.  Its a fine balance, and I try not to dwell on the negative.

This layout helped me process my feelings with a bit of hidden journaling , capture the moment and remind myself to enjoy.  Enjoy every moment.  (and lets have hope that there will be many more!)

Thanks for letting me share

Not a 24x30...

But still another mixed media canvas! (10x10)

A few nigh time houses...I just love this cool star stencil I bought at Deserres....its a lot thicker than the scrappin' ones I have, so you can really pile the modeling paste inside!

Thanks for taking a look!

ps yes, the two super larger canvas' are still in their packaging...I'm working up to them!  LOL

.... a new creative fear

I've been working on a new 6x12 mixed media canvas this weekend, stretching those She Art muscles...warming up to adding gesso to the two 24x30 canvas' on my shelf!

I can't seem to find any artwork for our living room that I like, and thought maybe I could do two matching paintings, but I'm so nervous to start the process!  Have you ever had this creative fear?  I think it may be because I have a goal in mind... (and I don't normally)

So here is what I'm waiting to dry...can you spot the Sassafras paper whimsies and cards?  I'll try and get a better photo of it once the rain stops :)

Here are the other layouts I finished at the LCOM crop a couple of weeks ago! I still can't believe how many I was able to get finished...looking forward to the next one in November :)
Anyway, wish me luck!
Have a great weekend

LCOM Crop Mojo!

Last weekend I met up with Kristine and Marielle for 2 days of scrappin!  The LCOM crops are always so much fun, lots of great laughs and memories!  Best of all, the mojo was FLOWING!  Seriously, I finished 11 layouts!!!  That's an all time record for me!  I'm already looking forward to the next weekend in November  (Zoe, remember to take your vitamines, no getting sick this time!)

Here are just a few of the layouts I worked on...I think this first one is my all time favorite...those sequence photos of Dave and I are so special :)  Thanks to my awesome friend Natalie for being such a talented photographer!!

Be @ Home!

A few weeks ago Be @ Home asked if they could feature my blog on their site as part of their  "Best of the Web" weekly feature and of course I agreed!  I was extremely honored that they would feel my little blog worth the read, let alone featured :)

Check out their site, they have great articles on home decor, cooking, pets, kids...you name it!  I think my favorite read so far is their Tips section...check out this article on creating your own giftwrap and my favorite Cat Tips Section!  Great ideas, and I'm going to look into the cat tent listed, I think my furkids would love to spend time outdoors safely!

Thanks for stopping by!
Hope you have a wonderful week

Scrappy Day with the lovely Zoe!

Last Sunday I drove up to Springhill, NS and spent the day with my lovely friend Zoë and her adorable family!  I hadn't scrapped in well over 2months and really needed the scrappy date to finally get glue to paper!  I'm not sure why that happens, but if I'm not creating something everyday I almost lose my nerve to sit down and make something.  Thanks to Zoë's wonderful hospitality though, I was able to make 3 full layouts and the beginning of a fourth! Yay!

A Little Bit of Sassy Sunshine!

As a self proclaimed Sassafras junkie, I'm surprised it took me this long to play with their latest collection Sunshine Broadcast!  I guess that really speaks to just how busy we've been here over at Casa Hart!  With all of the flooring and kitchen renos happening, its been difficult to think about anything else and my mojo just hasn't been easy to come by!

We leave for our family vacation tomorrow, it won't be very relaxing but so much fun to show Dave's boys London!  Our favorite city to visit :)  With all the worry about the kitchen lately, it was difficult to get excited about the trip....but my butterflies have finally arrived and I doubt I'll get any sleep tonight I'm so excited!

A Kitchy Friday Night!

So I haven't had the best of luck with printers over the years, a combination of not knowing what to buy and having a limited budget...(My dream is for a wide format printer, alas....one of these days!)
The last printer I had was so terrible, I just brought it to the electronic recycling depot last year, spare cartridges and all....it worked fine as long as you didn't mind the "magenta look".  Now getting back to the point of this post, I finally took the pluge and bought another printer last week.  Nothing fancy or expensive, just a really great salesperson who "got" what I was looking for and pointed me in the right direction.

The first thing I set out to do was print our a few of my digital kits from Kitchy Digitals.  I just love Danielle's retro style, so quirky and fun!

Here is the layout I made with "Granny's Attic" and the "Stacked Flowers" kits....the printer did an amazing job!

Everything you see here save for the title (Maya Road) and the background kraft paper was printed with my HP Eprint printer, even the photo!  What freedom!  I don't always have to wait to pick up my prints at the store now :)

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!  Only a scrapper would understand the importance of a great printer on hand!

Happy Sunday
